The fashion world was shocked and devastated to learn about the passing of Andre Leon Talley. Personally speaking, I was rattled. Andre was a legend in the industry. He was a trailblazer in many ways and someone I always looked up to and admired. When I first moved to LA, I worked as a PR assistant during fashion week. He arrived early to one of the shows I was working and quietly sat in his seat, patiently waiting for the show to start. I'll never forget he was wearing a long hunter-green croc trench and carrying a Louis Vuitton duffel bag. I spent the next 40 mins busily doing my job while trying to contain my excitement that ANDRE. LEON. TELLY. was in the room!!!!
What I loved most about Andre was how relatable he was to me. A Southern boy with big dreams moved to NYC and conquered the world. That was me. We both also had a taste for luxury. Mind you, I had a taste for luxury but not budget. That didn't matter because luxury wasn't always about material things for Andre. He once said, "Luxury is to be able to take control of one's life, health, and the pursuit of happiness in a way that is joyful." Luxury is a feeling. It's a mindset. It's about indulging in the simple things that bring us joy.
In honor of the lessons Andre taught us about luxury, here's a little video with a few ways to add a little luxury to your everyday life.
Thank you for everything, Andre. Your wisdom will be greatly missed. xo
